Police union ISOTITA criticizes Chief of Police over work shift adjustments
The police union ISOTITA, led by Nikos Loizidis, has formally accused the Chief of Police of misleading President Nikos Christodoulidis regarding recent changes to police work shifts. According to the union, the information provided to the President and subsequently shared with the European police organization EUROCOP contains distortions of reality. The union reports that since January 1, 2026, approximately 1,400 officers on 12-hour shifts have seen their annual rest days reduced from 37 to approximately 22.2 days. ISOTITA claims this reduction increases fatigue and negatively impacts operational performance, refuting the official stance that the changes improve effectiveness. President Loizidis explicitly denies the official position that the shift system is correct and dismisses legal arguments as a distraction from the urgent need for dialogue. The union has submitted a letter to the President detailing eleven points of contention and is calling for a formal meeting with all involved stakeholders. The union also highlighted that the President has previously held meetings with other professional groups while cases were pending in court, suggesting that pending legal proceedings should not prevent a resolution.
