President Erdogan issues warnings regarding Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has issued a strong warning to regional countries cooperating with Israel, stating that Turkey will not tolerate actions violating its rights or those of Turkish Cypriots. During a speech on June 10, 2026, he characterized these nations as small entities acting as subcontractors for Zionist policies and warned them against seeking adventures in the Eastern Mediterranean. Erdogan further alleged that Israel is attempting to destabilize African and Mediterranean regions. He emphasized that any perceived threat to Turkish interests in the area would receive a clear and firm response. Regarding Cyprus, he accused unnamed parties of attempting to foment discord on the island, noting that Ankara is monitoring the situation closely. Additionally, Erdogan announced that U.S. President Donald Trump will attend an upcoming NATO summit in Ankara. Israel maintains that its regional military actions, including those in Lebanon and Syria, are necessary measures against threats from groups like Hezbollah and are permitted under existing ceasefire terms.
