Cyprus introduces the first national blood strategy
Cyprus has developed its first comprehensive National Blood Strategy to ensure the availability, safety, quality, and sustainable management of blood supplies. The strategy was formulated following instructions from Minister of Health Neofytos Charalambides and finalized through a multi-month consultation process involving over 100 stakeholders. The initiative was coordinated by Dr. Androulla Eleftheriou, President of the National Committee for Thalassemia and Other Hemoglobinopathies. The official presentation and delivery of the strategy to the Minister are scheduled for June 13 in Nicosia. This event will take place during a specialized workshop, one day before World Blood Donor Day. The strategy aims to create a modern, coordinated, and resilient framework for the country's blood system by leveraging existing voluntary donation practices. It seeks to build upon the established high standards of blood collection and safety already present in Cyprus.
