Eurostat data on Ukrainian temporary protection beneficiaries as of April 2026

According to Eurostat data released in May 2026, 4.37 million people from outside the EU who fled Ukraine were under temporary protection in the European Union as of April 30, 2026. This figure represents an increase of 42,990 individuals, or 1%, compared to March 2026. Germany hosted the largest number with 1,279,660 beneficiaries, followed by Poland with 971,255 and the Czech Republic with 384,435. Cyprus hosted 24,880 beneficiaries in April 2026, remaining stable compared to the 24,890 recorded in March. With 25.31 people per thousand residents, Cyprus held the fourth highest ratio of beneficiaries in the EU. The highest ratios were observed in the Czech Republic at 35.2, Poland at 26.6, and Slovakia at 26.5 per thousand. The EU average stood at 9.7 individuals per thousand residents. Overall, the number of beneficiaries increased in 24 member states and decreased in three, with Poland recording the largest absolute increase.
