Greek and Turkish foreign ministers meet in Sofia
Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a meeting on the sidelines of the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP) summit in Sofia. The ministers discussed the ongoing situation regarding the Cyprus issue, including the upcoming meetings with the personal envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General and preparations for an informal expanded meeting on the matter. Regional developments in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean were addressed, alongside a discussion on transatlantic relations ahead of the July summit in Ankara. During the meeting, Gerapetritis addressed a rumored Turkish legislative initiative, stating that unilateral actions do not yield legal results and hinder a calm climate. He reaffirmed that the sole dispute between Greece and Turkey remains the delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone and the continental shelf.
