Cyprus launches first national anti-fraud strategy

On June 3, 2026, during the 4th OLAF Expenditure Conference in Ayia Napa, Cyprus officially launched its first National Anti-Fraud Strategy. The strategy covers the period from 2026 to 2031 and was formally approved by the Council of Ministers on May 27, 2026. Developed with assistance from the OECD and the European Union, the plan provides a framework for preventing, detecting, and investigating fraud. It includes a five-year action plan with designated authorities, monitoring indicators, and mandatory reporting procedures. The strategy encompasses both revenues and expenditures across various sectors, including cohesion policy, the Common Agricultural Policy, migration, and the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. This initiative marks the first time Cyprus has implemented a unified national framework to address financial fraud risks. The event was held while Cyprus serves as the chair of the Council of the European Union.
