Greek and Cypriot naval forces conduct joint exercise

On June 9, 2026, the Cypriot National Guard and the Greek Navy conducted a joint naval exercise designated as DNP/02-2026. The training took place in the sea area between Larnaca and Limassol as part of the broader 'Nikitis-Dimitra 2026' tactical exercise. The units participating were the Cypriot offshore patrol vessel Ioannidis and the Greek frigate Elli. The exercise focused on tactical maneuvers, technical drills, and communications training to improve interoperability and expertise exchange. The Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Emmanouil Theodorou, monitored the drill from on board one of the ships. He commended the crews for their professionalism and training standards. Reports indicate this event marks the first time that a Chief of the National Guard has participated in such an exercise from on board a vessel.
