Greek and Cypriot naval forces hold joint exercise
On June 9, 2026, the Cypriot National Guard and the Hellenic Navy conducted a joint naval exercise titled 'DNPN/02-2026'. The operation took place in the waters between Larnaca and Limassol as part of the broader 'NIKITIS-DIMITRA 2026' military maneuvers. The exercise involved the Cypriot Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) 'Ioannidis' and the Greek frigate 'Elli'. The training scenario focused on tactical maneuvers, technical drills, and communication procedures to improve interoperability between the two naval forces. Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Emmanouil Theodorou, monitored the exercise from on board one of the vessels. This event marked the first time a Chief of the National Guard has participated in such a maritime exercise on board a vessel. The official military reports cited the exercise as successful in enhancing operational knowledge and cooperation.
