Melios Pet Centre files complaint against Cypriot officials over animal deaths
On May 14, 2026, lawyers for Melios Pet Centre Ltd and its owner, Menelaos Menelaou, submitted a formal complaint to the President of Cyprus. The document alleges that state officials and the Game Fund engaged in systematic unlawful conduct against the company. According to the complaint, 20 legally imported crocodiles and several birds were killed by authorities without justification. Furthermore, the company claims a jaguar died due to improper confinement in transport crates. The lawyers also report that the transport of three lion cubs was unlawfully obstructed. The complaint alleges that these actions were taken in retaliation for a previous complaint filed by the company against the Ministry of Agriculture. Additionally, the document cites instances of alleged document forgery and interference in commercial transactions. The legal representatives are calling for an independent and comprehensive investigation into these events.
