Four individuals arrested in Cyprus for extortion and fraud against a 77-year-old
Police in Larnaca have arrested four individuals, including two businessmen aged 44 and 42, a 49-year-old inmate at Central Prisons, and a 45-year-old woman, in connection with an organized extortion scheme. The investigation began two months ago following a complaint by a 77-year-old man who alleged he was defrauded of significant sums of money. According to the investigation, the victim sold two properties in Pyla in December 2021 for 250,000 euros each. Shortly after, the suspects allegedly began using threats, intimidation, and gunfire to coerce the victim into handing over money. The 45-year-old woman is accused of feigning romantic interest to facilitate the extortion. The Larnaca District Court heard these details as authorities requested an eight-day detention period for the suspects. The investigation, which began after the victim reported the fraud, continues to uncover evidence of a coordinated criminal network. The suspects face multiple charges including extortion, threats, and illegal possession of firearms.
