FIFA addresses visa issues for officials ahead of the World Cup

FIFA President Gianni Infantino addressed concerns regarding visa denials for World Cup officials during a press conference in Mexico City on Wednesday. The discussion followed the exclusion of Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan, who was denied entry into the United States. U.S. authorities stated the decision was due to Artan's alleged associations with suspected members of terrorist organizations. Infantino expressed regret over the incident but emphasized that FIFA is a sports organization and cannot override the immigration policies of sovereign governments. He stated that FIFA continues to work behind the scenes to resolve such issues, advocating for diplomatic solutions rather than public conflict. The tournament, hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States, is scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19. Infantino confirmed he has no regrets regarding the choice of the United States as a co-host nation, despite the logistical challenges.
