Association of Cyprus Banks holds presentation event in Brussels

The Association of Cyprus Banks (ACB) held a two-day presentation event at Bloomberg offices in Brussels to showcase the performance and progress of the Cypriot economy and banking sector. The delegation included ACB director general Marios Skandalis, Bank of Cyprus deputy CEO Charis Pouangare, Eurobank Cyprus deputy CEO Haris Hambakis, and Alpha Bank Cyprus CEO Miltos Michaelas. Marios Skandalis opened the event by citing recent economic recovery and market dynamics that exceed EU averages. Charis Pouangare discussed macroeconomic data, digitalization, and evolving customer needs. Haris Hambakis presented ten conclusions regarding capital reserves, agility, and structural simplification in the banking sector. Miltos Michaelas addressed the challenges and opportunities facing local banks. Participants included professionals, regulatory authorities, the Central Bank, and diplomatic representatives. This outreach initiative follows similar efforts previously conducted by the ACB in the United States and aims to shift international perception beyond compliance and anti-money laundering concerns toward a focus on sector transformation.
