Serena Williams withdraws from Queen’s Club doubles after partner’s injury

American tennis player Serena Williams saw her comeback at the Queen’s Club WTA event interrupted on Thursday following the withdrawal of her doubles partner, Victoria Mboko. The 19-year-old Canadian teenager sustained a knee injury while playing a singles match against Karolina Pliskova on Wednesday and was forced to retire from that contest. Williams and Mboko had successfully defeated Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe on Tuesday in their opening match. Due to the withdrawal, the pair forfeited their scheduled quarter-final match against Leylah Fernandez and Laura Siegemund. The 44-year-old Williams, returning to professional tennis after a four-year absence, remains undecided regarding her participation in the upcoming Wimbledon championships. She is expected to continue her comeback efforts at a tournament in Berlin next week. The tennis icon has noted that her return to competitive play is being evaluated on a day-to-day basis.
