Trial continues regarding the death of 14-year-old Stylianos Konstantinou

The Nicosia District Court continues to hear the case concerning the death of 14-year-old Stylianos Konstantinou. During the cross-examination of criminal investigator Andreas Andreou, the defense focused on the structural failures of the Social Welfare Services (SWS). Defense attorney Andreas Christou presented evidence that in 2019, the Latsia SWS office managed 980 child protection cases and 450 reports with limited staff. The investigator acknowledged these figures and confirmed the existence of letters from the 10th defendant to her superiors, in which she warned about the risks posed by understaffing. The court also reviewed testimony from a former head of the family violence unit, who highlighted the lack of time required to adequately monitor all cases. The defense contends that the heavy workload and lack of resources directly impacted the management of the case. The investigator did not dispute the claims regarding the high volume of cases handled by the defendants at the time.
