National Guard military exercise held in Limassol

On Thursday, June 11, 2026, the National Guard conducted a military exercise titled 'Nikitis-Dimitra 2026' at the Limassol port and marina. The operation was coordinated by the Cyprus Ports Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense's KYPSEA and the Shipping Deputy Ministry. Participating agencies included the Port and Marine Police, the Fire Service, the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, the National Guard, OKYPY, and private operators DP World Limassol and P&O Maritime Cyprus Ltd. The exercise aimed to test operational readiness and inter-agency coordination during emergencies. Training scenarios focused on security threats, search and rescue operations, rapid deployment of personnel and equipment, vessel towing, and response to fuel spills caused by technical failures. The Ministry of Defense stated that the drill successfully verified the readiness of the involved services to handle real-world operational conditions.
