Laboratory-grown T-Rex skin handbag auctioned in Paris

A handbag crafted from laboratory-grown T-Rex skin is being auctioned today at the Hôtel Drouot in Paris by the Giquello auction house. The item is valued between 300,000 and 500,000 euros. The material was developed using collagen traces recovered from a T-Rex femur discovered in Montana, USA, approximately 25 years ago. Paleontologist Iacopo Briano, involved in the project, stated that the skin was created through cellular cultures, distinguishing it from conventional plastic-based vegan alternatives. The developers emphasize that this biotechnology allows for the production of leather without animal farming or slaughter. The bag was previously unveiled in Amsterdam earlier this spring. Experts classify this as a milestone in the luxury goods industry, noting it is the first product of its kind created from an extinct species.
