Survey examines impact of 2026 World Cup on personal plans in Spain
The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to begin on Thursday with the opening match between Mexico and South Africa. Ahead of the tournament, a survey conducted by Glovo in Spain analyzed how sports viewing habits affect personal commitments. Results indicated that over 60% of respondents would cancel or postpone a first date if it conflicted with a significant match. Furthermore, 80% of participants stated they would check their phones for match updates even if they attended such a date. Regarding wedding attendance during match times, 60% of surveyed Spaniards admitted they would attend the ceremony but follow the game via their mobile devices. If they were the ones getting married, 20% expressed interest in setting up viewing screens at their reception, while 35% would do so only with their partner's approval. Finally, the survey noted that 80% of football fans frequently check their phones during matches, with only 18% abstaining from digital devices while watching.
