Trial continues regarding the medical care of Diego Maradona
The trial in Buenos Aires concerning the death of football legend Diego Maradona continues with testimonies from medical personnel and family members. Mariano Peroni, a nursing coordinator for the home care provided to Maradona, testified on June 12, 2024, that he never had access to the residence in Tigre or contact with the patient's support staff. Maradona passed away on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60 due to acute pulmonary edema resulting from heart failure. Seven health professionals, including a doctor, a psychiatrist, and a psychologist, face charges of homicide with eventual malice, potentially carrying 25-year prison sentences. Conversely, Dalma Maradona, the daughter of the deceased, testified in San Isidro, alleging severe negligence by the medical team led by neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque. She claimed the family was promised 24/7 medical equipment and ambulance access, which were reportedly not provided. The defendants maintain their innocence as the judicial process examines who held ultimate responsibility for the recovery plan.
