Larnaca authorities address unsafe buildings

On June 11 and 12, the Larnaca District Local Government Organisation (EOA) proceeded with the demolition of two hazardous houses on Stavrodromiou Street in Larnaca. Angelos Chatzicharalambous, President of the EOA, stated that the organization is currently monitoring 35 additional structures requiring urgent action. Property owners will be notified to take safety measures, or they will face evacuation procedures. Additionally, the Larnaca District Court issued an order for the formal evacuation and fencing of an apartment building in the Faneromeni area. The building, containing 24 apartments, was already evacuated, with 40 residents relocated through the assistance of the Ministry of Interior, Civil Defense, and the Larnaca Municipality, though the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare did not participate. Previous demolitions included a house in the Sotiros area in late May and another property after its roof collapsed in mid-May. Mr. Chatzicharalambous emphasized the need for legislative amendments to allow authorities to act more effectively in the future.
