Fire incidents reported in Cyprus on July 1, 2026
On July 1, 2026, three distinct fires occurred across Cyprus. Near the Astromeritis checkpoint, a fire in dry grass and wild vegetation was managed by the Fire Service, with aerial support and assistance from the Department of Forests and Civil Defense. A second fire occurred in the Karaves area of Sia, Nicosia district, at 14:30 and was brought under control by 15:10 after burning three decares of pines and brushwood. This fire was caused by an outdoor oven; the individual responsible admitted to the act and faces charges. A third fire broke out near Palodia on the Limassol-Platres road, burning 0.5 hectares of grass. It was contained by a rented tracked vehicle, with police investigating hot work or grinding as a potential cause. Additionally, the Fire Service announced that five new rural fire stations, including Pakhna and Lefkara, are now operating on a 24-hour basis as part of new preventive measures.
