Recent fire incidents in Cyprus: Germasogeia, Sia, and Astromeritis
On July 3, 2026, at 03:53, a fire occurred in a shop located on the ground floor of a hotel in Germasogeia, Limassol. The Agios Nikolaos fire station controlled the blaze by 04:15. One person was assisted by firefighters to exit the premises safely, while another had already left before their arrival. The Limassol CID is investigating the incident as a potential case of arson. Separately, on July 2, 2026, at 00:10, a fire broke out in a combine harvester in Sia, Nicosia province, which was brought under control within 30 minutes by Forestry Department and Fire Service units. Additionally, a wildfire burned approximately four hectares of dry grass, vegetation, and olive trees near the Astromeritis checkpoint on July 1, 2026. This fire required air support and involved multiple responding agencies, including the Forestry Department and Civil Defence. All incidents were brought under control without reported injuries, and investigations into the causes are ongoing.
