Wildfire brought under control in Trachoni, Limassol
On the afternoon of Saturday, June 27, 2026, a wildfire broke out in the Trachoni area of Limassol, burning dry grass, wild vegetation, and an abandoned livestock structure. The Fire Service, assisted by the British Bases, the Kourion municipality, and volunteer groups such as Atlas and Blue Heart, successfully contained the blaze. Two aerial firefighting units were deployed to assist the ground crews, which included multiple fire engines and excavators. Three residents sustained injuries while attempting to protect their properties using garden hoses; two suffered minor burns to their hands, and one experienced respiratory distress. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene to provide medical care. Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis reported that no operational homes were damaged. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have been ignited when a truck came into contact with Electricity Authority of Cyprus power lines.
