Wildfire contained in Neo Chorio and minor incident in Pera Oreinis
On Friday, June 12, 2026, a wildfire occurred at the Kalochronies site in Neo Chorio, Paphos district, starting at 11:13. The fire burned approximately three hectares of land, damaging olive and carob trees. Emergency response included 30 Forestry Department personnel, 8 fire service members, 6 forestry fire trucks, 3 fire service trucks, 2 bulldozers, 2 tractors, and 4 firefighting aircraft from the National Guard. The fire was fully contained by 12:30. Preliminary reports suggest the blaze was caused by a mechanical failure in agricultural machinery working in a grain field. Additionally, a separate minor fire occurred in Pera Oreinis, Nicosia district, at 18:31, which was contained by 18:59 following the intervention of four personnel and two fire trucks from the Forestry Department. Investigations into the causes of both incidents are ongoing.
