Bicommunal Technical Committee for Youth visits Brussels to discuss Cyprus issue
The Bicommunal Technical Committee for Youth conducted a two-day working visit to Brussels on June 10 and 11, following an invitation from the European External Action Service. A key component of the trip was a two-hour meeting with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas. Discussions centered on the Cyprus issue, the potential for youth involvement in peace negotiations, and the importance of EU participation in the resolution process. Committee co-head Amalia Avraam stated that the international community aims to utilize the current timeframe before the mandates of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and personal envoy Maria Angela Holguin conclude. Turkish Cypriot members of the committee raised specific concerns regarding mixed marriages, sports-related restrictions, and difficulties in exercising rights associated with EU citizenship. The committee provided recommendations for strengthening youth participation in institutional decision-making processes. Participants emphasized that the visit served as recognition of the committee's ongoing work to build trust between communities.
