Cyprus hosts informal ministerial meeting on implementation of EU migration pact
On Friday, Cyprus hosted an informal ministerial meeting in Nicosia as part of its Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection, Nikolas Ioannidis, officially opened the session, marking the beginning of the implementation phase of the EU Migration and Asylum Pact. Ioannidis described the pact as a significant milestone resulting from years of negotiations between member states and EU institutions. He emphasized that the new framework aims to establish a more coherent and resilient system for managing asylum and migration across the bloc. According to the Deputy Minister, the strategy relies on shared responsibility, mutual trust, and solidarity among all member states. Officials noted that this implementation represents a shift toward joint, coordinated action rather than individual national policies. The discussions are intended to further define how the pact will be applied consistently across the European Union.
