Meeting held regarding relocation of power pylons in Polemidia

A meeting was held on Friday at the Polemidia Town Hall between residents of the Adonis II housing complex, Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) representatives, and the Mayor of Polemidia, Andros Theodorou, to discuss the relocation of nearby high-voltage power pylons. This meeting followed complaints raised to President Nikos Christodoulides during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Adonis III project. EAC spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou stated that a partial relocation of the line by 80 meters is planned for early next year as a temporary measure. The full dismantling and relocation of the line 1.5 kilometers away is scheduled for September 2027, contingent upon complex procedures such as road registration. Residents expressed significant dissatisfaction, stating they were not informed of such long timelines during their initial communication with the President. Resident Marina Theodorou noted that the current pylon is located 29 meters from homes, and residents fear that the proposed five-to-six-year timeline for complete removal will be delayed further. The EAC maintained that cooperation from multiple state authorities is required for the final plan to proceed.
