Alpine's Pierre Gasly reinstated to Monaco Grand Prix podium after appeal
Following the Monaco Grand Prix, Alpine driver Pierre Gasly had his third-place finish restored after a successful right of review appeal. Initially, Gasly was issued two five-second penalties for exceeding the 60 km/h speed limit in the pit lane. Alpine challenged the decision, providing data suggesting the driver had remained within the legal speed threshold. During a hearing held on Thursday, Formula One Management admitted that a technical error occurred in their timing system. The measurement loop at the pit lane entrance was found to be 77 centimeters shorter than specified, leading to incorrect speed readings for several drivers. While the stewards ruled these new facts sufficient to overturn Gasly's penalties, the decision does not affect other drivers who were penalized for the same infraction. Some of those drivers had already served their penalties during the race or did not formally challenge the ruling. Gasly is officially reinstated in third place, resulting in his return to the podium.
