Criminal court reviews classified document disclosure in prison guard case
On Friday, the Criminal Court held a session regarding state documents seized from a prison guard's home in April 2025. The proceedings focused on the Prosecution's refusal to disclose 392 documents to the defense, citing national security and public interest. The defense argued that the number of withheld documents has fluctuated significantly during the legal process. Originally, police reported approximately 300,000 documents, which was narrowed to 48,432 in the indictment. The number of documents the prosecution refused to hand over dropped progressively from 2,900 to 1,784, then to 440, and finally to 392. The defense further contended that some documents labeled as classified are already publicly available online, visible in existing witness materials, or redacted. The Court is currently assessing whether these remaining 392 documents meet the statutory criteria for non-disclosure.
