Case study reports temporary cognitive improvement in Alzheimer's patient after psilocybin
A case study published in Frontiers in Neuroscience describes an 80-year-old woman with advanced Alzheimer's disease who experienced temporary functional improvements following a high dose of psilocybin. The patient had been living with the condition for approximately 10 years and was highly dependent on caregivers. Prior to the intervention, she had minimal speech, limited mobility, and chronic incontinence. Approximately 19 hours post-administration, the patient demonstrated improved speech capabilities, social engagement, and motor skills. Improvements were also noted in her ability to dress herself, recognize family members, and manage bladder control. Researchers emphasize that these findings represent a single case study without a control group and do not constitute a cure or reversal of the disease. They caution that the results cannot be generalized and further clinical study is required to understand the long-term implications.
