Peruvian police arrest drug trafficking suspect while disguised as World Cup mascots

Peruvian police conducted an operation in Lima to apprehend a suspected drug dealer who was known to be a dedicated football fan. To gain proximity to the suspect, officers disguised themselves as characters resembling the 2026 World Cup mascots, Maple the Reindeer and Cluch the Bald Eagle. According to police reports, the suspect was engaged in festivities related to the tournament when the officers approached his residence. Upon breaking down the gate of the property, the police engaged in a brief chase before capturing the individual on an upper floor. During the search of the premises, authorities discovered a firearm, a knife, and various quantities of narcotics. Official statements indicated that the disguise was used specifically to avoid alerting the suspect. The operation was considered successful in neutralizing the potentially dangerous target without significant resistance at the entry point.
