New safety requirements for delivery motorcycle riders in Cyprus
Starting May 29, 2026, the Department of Road Transport in Cyprus will implement new protective equipment requirements for motorcycle riders working in product distribution, courier, and postal services. These regulations apply to operators of AM, A1, A2, and A category motorcycles used for delivering food, beverages, goods, or mail. Riders are required to wear an approved, properly fastened helmet and must select at least two items from a mandatory protective list. This list includes a reflective jacket or vest worn over clothing, long trousers, boots or closed shoes, gloves, and an airbag system specifically designed for motorcycle use. The obligations are mandated by article 8(4) of the Driving License Law N. 94(I)/2001. Compliance is required regardless of the employment status or remuneration of the driver. The department stated that the measures aim to enhance road safety and increase protection for professionals frequently utilizing the road network. Relevant stakeholders and employers are urged to ensure adherence to these new legislative provisions.
