Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence and Cyta launch EarthView Cyprus initiative
On June 8, 2026, the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence and the telecommunications provider Cyta officially announced the launch of EarthView Cyprus. This strategic partnership was unveiled during the high-level forum titled 'From Space to Solutions: Leveraging Space Technology, Earth Observation & AI for Real World Impact' held at The Landmark Nicosia. The event took place under the auspices of the 2026 Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Representing the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, was the Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation, and Technology, Demetris Skourides. The initiative leverages the Satellite Data Acquisition Station (sDAS), which was established as part of the EXCELSIOR Horizon 2020 Teaming project. The facility is located at the Cyta satellite station in the village of Pera Oreinis. Its purpose is to facilitate the reception and processing of satellite Earth observation data in near real-time. The program aims to support socioeconomic and environmental applications through innovative technological services.
