Convictions issued for fatal amusement park accident in Pefkochori

The mixed jury court of Giannitsa has issued verdicts for the August 2024 accident in Pefkochori, Chalkidiki, which resulted in the death of 19-year-old Giannis Kampailis. The owner of the amusement park was sentenced to life imprisonment plus eight years. The mechanical engineer who provided safety certificates for the ride received a 13-year sentence for complicity in manslaughter with possible intent, without mitigating circumstances. The owner's wife, acting as co-manager, was sentenced to 9 years after the court recognized sincere remorse as a mitigating factor. The operator of the 'Crazy Dance' ride received a 6-year sentence, with the court recognizing his post-adolescent age as a mitigating factor. The court ruled that the sentences for the engineer, the wife, and the operator will have a suspensive effect pending appeal. These three individuals were released under conditions, including a travel ban and bail of 20,000 euros for the engineer. All four defendants were found guilty of charges including manslaughter with possible intent.
