G7 leaders meet in Evian to discuss Ukraine and Russia sanctions
Leaders of the G7 nations (USA, Germany, France, UK, Italy, Japan, Canada) gathered in Evian, France, to finalize agreements regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine. The group reached a consensus to impose stricter sanctions on Russia, specifically targeting energy exports, the banking sector, and military production. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended the summit and met with US President Donald Trump to discuss military aid, including long-range missiles and air defense systems. The G7 leaders also pledged a winter aid program for Ukraine to support its energy infrastructure against Russian strikes. While President Trump expressed his intention to facilitate a peace deal, Kremlin spokesperson Yuri Ushakov clarified that no direct discussions between Putin and Zelenskyy took place during recent communications. Canada also announced new sanctions against more than 160 entities linked to the conflict. Official statements emphasized that Russia is not gaining the upper hand on the battlefield and needs to reach an agreement to end the war.
