Cypriot Defense Minister visits Eurosatory 2026 and comments on military presence
Cypriot Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas will travel to Paris on Tuesday to inaugurate the Cypriot pavilion at the Eurosatory 2026 defense exhibition. During the visit, Palmas intends to hold bilateral meetings, including a session with Brazil's Deputy Minister of Defense to discuss historic cooperation dating back to the 1980s. The minister noted that several Cypriot defense firms are represented at the event. Regarding press reports from 'O Fileleftheros' about the potential for a permanent Greek military presence in Cyprus, Palmas stated there are currently no official announcements to be made. He confirmed that the frigate 'Elli', equipped with an anti-drone system, and four F-16 fighter jets remain in Cypriot waters. The minister emphasized that coordination with the Greek government is ongoing at both the staff and ministerial levels. Future decisions regarding military presence will be made based on evolving security conditions.
