Cyprus ranked first globally for voluntary blood donation
The Cyprus Ministry of Health announced on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day that the country ranks first in the world in voluntary, unpaid blood donation relative to its population size. Authorities reported the collection of 74,279 units of blood. This volume is attributed to the active participation of local volunteer donors and platelet donors. The Ministry emphasized that voluntary blood donation is a vital pillar for the functioning of the healthcare system. These supplies are utilized for transfusions in surgical cases, accident victims, and patients with chronic illnesses. The Ministry and the national Blood Centre expressed gratitude to the donors for their contributions. Furthermore, health officials called on eligible citizens to continue donating to ensure future supply adequacy. The campaign also highlighted the World Health Organization slogan for the year: "Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often.
