Cyprus ranks first globally in per capita voluntary blood donations
On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day on June 14, the Cyprus Ministry of Health announced that the country ranks first globally in voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation per capita. Official data indicates that Cyprus collected 74,279 units of blood. Health authorities credit this achievement to the sustained participation of volunteer blood and platelet donors. This voluntary contribution is described as a critical pillar for the national healthcare system, supporting accident victims, surgical patients, and individuals with chronic conditions. The Ministry noted that each donated unit can help save up to three lives. Officials and the Blood Centre expressed gratitude to current donors for their contribution. Furthermore, the Ministry issued an appeal to all eligible citizens to participate in blood donation to maintain the country's blood supply levels. The campaign is aligned with the World Health Organization's initiative titled 'A Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.
