Carriage horse dies in New York's Central Park

A 16-year-old horse named Denise collapsed and died while pulling a carriage in New York City's Central Park. Video footage circulating online shows the animal falling in the middle of a path as bystanders attempted to assist. Some witnesses criticized the carriage driver for appearing indifferent while making a phone call during the incident. Following the event, stables involved in the carriage industry suspended operations on Wednesday to mourn the animal. The Central Park Conservancy, a private non-profit organization, has renewed its call to end the practice of horse-drawn carriages in the park. Additionally, animal rights activists and five members of the New York City Council gathered at City Hall to advocate for the permanent abolition of this service. Denise was one of the 68 licensed carriage horses currently operating in Central Park.
