Minister of agriculture reports no new foot-and-mouth disease cases in Cyprus

Minister of Agriculture Maria Panagiotou stated on June 15, 2026, that no new cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been identified following the latest outbreak in Mammari. The culling of affected livestock in Mammari has been completed, and veterinary services continue to perform sampling and monitoring. A new shipment of vaccines was received on June 7, and the vaccination program is proceeding according to plan. Additionally, the minister held a meeting with the Union of Communities to address the issue of illegal landfills, noting that 2.2 million euros have been allocated for their cleanup over the past two years. Panagiotou reiterated that the responsibility for site maintenance lies with local authorities. She also highlighted the government's water scarcity plan, which includes the activation of three new desalination plants over the last two years and plans for a fourth.
