Bronze sculpture of Vasyl Hryhorovych-Barsky unveiled in Larnaca
A bronze sculpture honoring the 18th-century traveler Vasyl Hryhorovych-Barsky was unveiled in Larnaca on Monday. Located at the Obiimy Cyprus Cultural Centre on Grigoris Afxentiou street, the piece commemorates the Kyiv-born traveler who documented the lives and landscapes of Cyprus 300 years ago. The sculpture was donated by the Obiimy Cyprus Cultural Centre and Sushko Philanthropy. It is the first international installation of the Ukrainian "Shukai!" project, which has placed 52 similar works in Kyiv over the last decade. Organizers stated the initiative reflects the historical ties between the nations and the current presence of over 30,000 Ukrainians living in Cyprus. Larnaca deputy mayor Iasonas Iasonidis attended the ceremony to welcome the contribution. The artwork serves as a cultural symbol of the ongoing relationship between the Ukrainian community and their host city.
