Small bronze sculpture of Vasyl Hryhorovych-Barsky unveiled in Larnaca

A small bronze sculpture of the 18th-century Kyiv-born traveller Vasyl Hryhorovych-Barsky was unveiled in Larnaca. The statue was donated to the city by the Obiimy Cyprus cultural centre and the Sushko Philanthropy initiative. Located at the Obiimy Cyprus Cultural Centre on Grigoris Afxentiou Street, the sculpture is part of the Ukrainian project 'Shukai!', which commemorates history through small bronze figures in public spaces. This marks the first time the project has placed a sculpture outside of Ukraine. Barsky is historically significant for having travelled across Cyprus on foot 300 years ago, documenting the island's landscape and daily life in detail. Organizers stated that the project highlights the deep historical ties between Ukraine and Cyprus, where currently over 30,000 Ukrainians reside. Larnaca Deputy Mayor Iasonas Iasonidis attended the event and welcomed the contribution to the city's cultural landscape. The unveiling took place on either Sunday or Monday, according to differing reports.
