Art installation 'Thousand hands, thousand stories' unveiled in Cyprus
The art installation titled 'Thousand hands, thousand stories: Common ground' was created as part of the 'Peace2Peace Open Air Crochet Installations' project. Over a period of six months, women of various ethnicities from across Cyprus, including a group of Turkish Cypriot women, participated in this initiative. The project utilized the traditional craft of 'smili' (crochet) to create thousands of handmade flowers. Key contributors included the Paphos Educational Centers, under the guidance of instructor Mary Savva, along with the Geroskipou Adult Center and the Paphos Municipality Adult Center. The installation draws inspiration from Cypriot archaeology and cultural heritage. The project received funding and support from the Cyprus Department of Antiquities and the Deputy Ministry of Culture. The goal of the initiative was to foster dialogue, human connection, and a culture of peace through collective creation.
