Acting Paphos mayor announces cleanup of Minoos area
Acting Paphos Mayor Angelos Onisiforou has announced a comprehensive restoration and cleanup plan for the Minoos area, also known as Psarochori, in Kato Paphos, starting this Wednesday. The area, which spans approximately 10,000 square metres, was inaugurated as a landmark site in 2021 but has since fallen into a state of severe degradation. Onisiforou reported that people are living in makeshift shelters among trees, parks, and abandoned Turkish Cypriot properties. Public facilities, including offices and cafeterias built with public funds, remain unused and have been subjected to vandalism. The mayor criticized the lack of intervention from the Police, Social Welfare Services, and Health Services, noting that his administration is now taking direct action. The goal of the project is to restore the site to a condition suitable for a modern European city and to secure public spaces from further abandonment. The area is adjacent to key archaeological and tourist sites, making its current state a matter of significant local concern.
