Cyprus hosts conference on European aviation strategy
On Monday in Nicosia, the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union organized a summit focusing on the future of the European aviation strategy. During the event, Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Alexis Vafeadis delivered an address, which was read by the ministry's General Director, Marina Ioannou-Hasapi. The Minister emphasized that the transition to green aviation must be balanced with innovation and investments to maintain Europe's global competitiveness. He highlighted that aviation serves as a strategic public good that supports regional connectivity, tourism, and trade. The sector is currently facing significant challenges, including geopolitical instability, airspace restrictions, supply chain pressures, and rising operational costs. Minister Vafeadis noted that the ongoing development of a new European aviation strategy is critical for the industry's future. He specifically underscored the importance of regional aviation in maintaining links for islands and remote communities. The speech also reflected the broader vision of the Cypriot Presidency for an autonomous union that remains open to the global community.
