Rehabilitated barn owl found nesting with chicks near Mammari
A barn owl, identified by ring number TL00035, was discovered nesting with four newly hatched chicks near Mammari during a monitoring project. The project is a collaboration between BirdLife Cyprus, the Department of Forests, and Bird Focus as part of a national conservation plan. The female owl had been admitted to the Taşkent Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Vouno in December 2024 with severe injuries. After successful treatment, it was ringed and released into the wild in March 2025. One year later, the bird was found in excellent physical condition, weighing 385 grams, alongside its ringed mate. Experts noted the successful breeding as evidence of the effectiveness of local wildlife rescue and conservation programs.
