Anti-corruption authority to release report on 'Mafia State' allegations

The Independent Anti-Corruption Authority is set to release its findings regarding the 'Mafia State' investigation, which examined allegations of systemic corruption leveled by journalist Makarios Drousiotis. The investigation, which lasted over two years, involved 150 witness testimonies, 214 hearings, and approximately 800 pieces of evidence. A 3,000-page final dossier was submitted in late April. The report is expected to detail potential criminal liability for more than ten individuals, including former President Nicos Anastasiades and various state officials. Anastasiades has consistently denied the allegations, characterizing Drousiotis as a slanderer, and has pursued defamation litigation. The Authority will provide a detailed summary of its findings, with the former president being the first to be briefed. If criminal offenses are identified, the Attorney General and his deputy may face conflicts of interest due to their appointments by the former president, potentially requiring independent legal oversight.
