Limassol traffic congestion threatens economic growth
Andreas Tsouloftas, President of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Evel), recently warned that severe traffic congestion in Limassol has become a major threat to the city's economic development. Limassol contributes nearly 50 percent of Cyprus’ GDP, serving as a hub for shipping, real estate, professional services, and technology. Tsouloftas stated that inadequate road infrastructure is negatively impacting residents' quality of life and hindering business operations. He reported that several high-tech companies are now considering relocating due to these logistical challenges. During a meeting with Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades, local mayors, and community leaders, Tsouloftas criticized the lack of substantial funding for Limassol in the 2026 budget. He specifically highlighted the long-delayed Northern Bypass project, which he argued should have commenced five years ago. The Chamber is now calling for increased coordination between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Interior to expedite urban planning projects. Tsouloftas emphasized that immediate action is necessary to prevent the loss of business confidence and potential economic decline.
