Diko and DIPA evaluate 2026 parliamentary election results
The Democratic Party (DIKO) held executive and central committee meetings at its headquarters in Nicosia to evaluate the 2026 parliamentary election results. Party leader Nikolas Papadopoulos addressed over 30 officials, stating that the party secured 8 seats and maintains a significant regulatory role in the new parliament. Papadopoulos acknowledged internal weaknesses and public dissatisfaction, pledging to focus on solutions for households. Meanwhile, the Democratic Alignment (DIPA) is preparing for an internal review of its own electoral performance, with a nationwide conference planned for early July. DIPA official Alekos Tryfonides admitted to shortcomings at all levels of the party, citing both internal errors and the impact of the 'wasted vote' phenomenon. DIPA indicated openness to dialogue regarding the formation of a strong centrist space, provided the discussions address ideological issues like the Cyprus problem on an equal footing. DIPA leader Marios Garoyian has reportedly held preliminary meetings with the EDEK party and the Ecologists Movement to discuss potential future cooperation.
