Industrial action announced by CyBC staff and hourly government workers
Three unions representing employees at the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) have announced a one-hour strike on Friday, June 19, from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The workers are protesting against management for unresolved labour issues, including pension benefit delays persisting since a March 2025 agreement. Separately, hourly-paid government workers have planned a 24-hour nationwide strike for June 24, 2026. This action is supported by unions OEKDY SEK, PASEY PEO, and DEE KDOKO DEOK. The government staff are protesting the Ministry of Finance's delay in negotiating a collective agreement for the 2025–2027 period, which was first requested in April 2025. Unions state that many employees receive wages close to the minimum wage, which they argue is insufficient for basic living costs. This 24-hour strike will involve approximately 7,500 government workers and 1,700 employees from the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO). If an agreement is not reached, the unions have warned of further escalation in industrial action.
