Study examines priorities for mitigating the lack of a Cyprus settlement

The Social Research Center and the Cyprus Academic Dialogue have published a study titled 'Mitigating the Negative Effects of the Non-Solution in Cyprus: Demands and Expectations from the Other Side'. Conducted by Professor Yücel Vural and Dr. Maria Hadjipavlou with support from the British High Commission, the research utilized focus groups involving 66 participants. The findings indicate that Turkish Cypriot priorities include economic integration, the opening of new crossing points, the unification of mobile networks, and improved access to public services. Conversely, Greek Cypriots prioritize inter-communal cooperation, Confidence Building Measures (CBMs), joint youth activities, and the protection of cultural heritage. The report highlights that both communities generally express openness to each other's requests. There is mutual support for promoting economic cooperation and opening new crossing points to facilitate daily life. The study reflects on how these perspectives could help improve living conditions despite the ongoing lack of a comprehensive political settlement.
